Plains Paddock follow organic farming practices to bring you lamb that's chemical and hormone free.
Our breed, the Dorper, is a robust South African sheep which is naturally fast growing so there's no need for nasties like growth hormones, chemical drenches or vaccinations. Dorpers do not need to be mulesed due to having fat wrinkle free bottoms.
The ewes graze freely on our large Riverina property favouring Creeping Saltbush and other native pastures. The lambs put on size and weight quickly due to low stocking rates and our emphasis on good low stress husbandry practises. We do not supplementary feed as that gains weight but not flavour, rather we rotate grazing paddocks carefully to ensure prime quality pastures are always available to the mothers.
Dorpers are renowned for their fine muscling and even fat distribution, delivering mouth-watering succulence and rich flavour.
Even better, we hand pick our lambs to suit our customer's needs and deliver small lots of up to 9 lambs at a time to a local abattoir. We ensure that this process is quick and low stress. To guarantee tenderness we hang the carcasses to age from seven to 10 days.
